About North Florida School of Special Education

Home » About NFSSE

North Florida School of Special Education was established in 1992 by a group of parents wanting a better opportunity for their four special needs children. Since that time, NFSSE has grown to a 2011-2012 enrollment of 90 students and post-graduates with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. The Anderson Smith Campus opened its doors in 2004 at the Mill Creek Road location.

Our programs, with classes serving students from age 6 - 22 years of age, include academics, social skills instruction, speech and language, occupational therapy, vocational training, physical therapy, independent living instruction, job placement services, and community service projects, working as volunteers for other non-profit agencies. Programs are delivered through an integrated team approach involving the teacher, teaching assistant, speech, physical, occupational, behavioral and social skills staff. All students are individually assessed, giving students unique goals for personal growth and success.

North Florida School of Special Education proudly celebrates our 19th year of educating developmentally disabled children with an ongoing goal to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment. At NFSSE, students receive a quality education, participate as contributing members of their community and improve their academic, vocational, and social skills.
