New and Returning Parents

Great care is taken to ensure that North Florida School of Special Education is the right fit for each child who is admitted, and the expectations of school, home and student are clearly defined at the onset of the process. We are committed to attracting the type of student best suited to the curriculum and learning style emphasized at North Florida School of Special Education.

NFSSE maintains attendance policies in adherence to those set forth by the Department of Education to maintain compliance with  The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA). In order to fulfill those obligations, students in grades 4-12 must be in an academic instructional environment for a minimum of 900 hours per academic school year. Lower school grades 1-3 students require a minimum of 720 hours of academic instruction per academic school year.

School hours are:
Elementary: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Intermediate, Secondary, Transition: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm
Postgrads at NFSSE Campus: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Because our students are equipped with various skill sets and demonstrate different strengths and areas of improvement, North Florida School of Special Education is committed to make every effort to differentiate our program in order for each student to reach his or her highest potential. Student psycho-educational assessments and the Individual Education Plan (IEP) from the last public school enrollment are reviewed to assist in evaluation of the student placement.

This review, along with input from the student’s current teacher and a NFSSE visitation in the classroom placement he or she is anticipated to attend paints a more complete picture of the student’s compatibility with North Florida School of Special Education.

Unique Learning System (ULS)

The Unique Learning System (ULS) program that we utilize at NFSSE ensures that each of our students is individually assessed and subsequently equipped with a specific educational plan geared towards their success. This plan allows each student to interact with differentiated material to set and achieve realistic goals based on their required level of support.
