Student Puts Therapy to Use for Others

When Shaley Austin began her occupational therapy program last semester she wanted it to have a purpose.
Austin is a Secondary 11/12 student and took her passion for sewing to create pouches for elementary school students struggling with the removal of twist lids on apple sauce packets. “I found out how to make these online, and it makes me feel good to know that they’ll be using them in class,” explains Austin.

The process to make the pretend pouches began by pinning a pattern to the fabric, cutting, stuffing, sewing it together, and then completing it by attaching the plastic tops. The final product was delivered on Thursday to the Elementary 1/2 Class.

Her selfless effort will be used by the young children every morning. Nice job Shaley!
